Google Chat apps for Jira compared

Herald, Google’s Jira app for Chat and Move Work Forward’s Advanced Google Chat for Jira, side by side. We make Herald, so we’ve tried to be fair and to say where the others are better.

Based on each product’s public documentation and Marketplace listing in October 2026. Products change; if something here is out of date, tell us and we’ll correct it.

Google’s Jira app: best for personal notifications

It’s free and the only one of the three with personal notifications and commands like /jira_create. The weak spot is setup and reliability: in our reading of its 109 Marketplace reviews, most are one or two stars, and the most common complaint is that connecting fails. If it works for you, it’s a fine choice; if it doesn’t, see our fixes.

Move Work Forward: free, with good basic filters

A capable free app that uses webhooks like Herald, with pickers for the common fields and project-level setup. Its documentation says Cloud doesn’t support status from → to filters, and it doesn’t describe a delivery log or failure alerts. It runs on the vendor’s own servers.

Herald: for teams that need it to keep working

Herald does one job: space notifications with precise filters, and telling you when something breaks. It costs money above 10 users, and personal notifications and buttons on cards aren’t there yet. If you want to try it, switching takes a few minutes per space, and you can run it next to your current app while you compare.
